Четыре участника Heaven & Hell гастролировали и записывались вместе как Black Sabbath с 1980 по 1982 год и с 1991 по 1992 год. В то время Дио заменил вокалиста-основателя Black Sabbath Оззи Осборна, а Эппис - барабанщика-основателя Билла Уорда. Название группы происходит от одноименного альбома 1980 года «Heaven and Hell».
